Race 21 July 2024

Yesterday was a hectic day for the women in the Baloise Ladies Tour. Two stages were scheduled: a morning stage and an individual time trial in the evening. Unfortunately, the first stage of the day was neutralized after just ten minutes of racing due to a serious crash. "It was very hectic and dangerous," says Thalita de Jong. "After the crash, we stood still for an hour. The race resumed afterward but was significantly shortened."

In the evening, an individual time trial was held in Zwevegem. "I was curious to see how it would go after the long wait, already having one stage in the legs, and the heat on top of that. You could really feel the energy draining from your body. But I did what I always do. I raced by feeling, and it turned out to be a good one." De Jong nicely finished third, moving up to third place in the GC. "After all the chaos earlier in the day, I am definitely happy with that performance. And today, we will do everything we can to defend that third place."
