ProTeam Alec Segaert, among the favourites, looks ahead to the Belgian Time Trial Championship

In a moment, just after five o'clock, we will know who the new Belgian time trial champion is. Alec Segaert is tipped as one of the favourites. "I have made this my goal."
Race 20 June 2024

The course in Binche does not lie. 38.4 kilometers, straight and straightforward, with few bends. "I don't think I'll come to a stop quickly," says Alec Segaert. He was already the national U23 time trial champion in 2022 and finished second among the pros last year. "I know that I am considered one of the top contenders for today, especially with Yves Lampaert out after his crash in Switzerland. The absence of, for example, Remco Evenepoel also makes this a unique opportunity. But of course, there are other candidates at the start who are motivated and strong. I think primarily of Rune Herregodts, but certainly also of Tim Wellens. Besides, it's always more fun to compete against everyone, so it's not that I was hoping for absentees. I have mainly focused on myself and my own preparation."

"I have made this Belgian Championship time trial a goal. It is one of the highlights of my season. A race where a jersey is at stake is always something special. I rode the Baloise Belgium Tour, which also included a time trial. That one was only 11 kilometers, much shorter, but it meant I clocked quite a few kilometers on the time trial bike in training. I wanted to get as comfortable as possible on my time trial bike. Overall, my form is just good."
