ProTeam Jenno Berckmoes narrowly fourth on the Kluisberg

Jenno Berckmoes finished fourth in Circuit Franco Belge. "It stings, it was really close," he says.
Race 29 May 2024

Jenno Berckmoes started Circuit Franco Belge with bib number one and wanted to finish in that position on top of the Kluisberg. Unfortunately, the scenario played out differently, and Berckmoes had to settle for fourth place at the finish after an exciting sprint with Biniam Girmay, Axel Zingle and Marc Hirschi. "Especially with Hirschi, it was really close for that third spot. I was a lot faster once we crossed the line... but that’s too late, of course. I came to win, so this does sting. I was disappointed, but when I look at the names who finished ahead of me, I realize I can be satisfied."

The riders had to climb the Kluisberg six times, but it wasn't until the final pass that the race reached its climax. "Every major team had someone at the start who could potentially win, so it was a closed race from start to finish. I think we had the right strategy, with Pascal (Eenkhoorn) who managed to stay ahead for a while, and Liam (Slock) who could close the gap at the end... Two laps from the end, I even had to change bikes due to a shifting problem, but Arjen (Livyns) brought me back completely. Everyone gave their maximum effort, so I am very grateful to everyone."
