ProTeam Jenno Berckmoes third in queen stage of 4 Jours de Dunkerque

Jenno Berckmoes heads as third in the GC to the final stage.
Race 18 May 2024

The queen stage of the 4 Jours de Dunkerque around Cassel promised to give some spectacle. Three riders made it into the early break. “It was quite a fight for the breakaway, as everyone wanted to be in it”, Jenno Berckmoes explains. “It wasn’t a big group, so it wasn’t really a must to have someone in. It got controlled and soon also the bunch got more select. We rode very attentively, Liam (Slock) and myself took some boni seconds.”

“When a group of five riders rode away in the final, I didn’t panic as the gap wasn’t too big. With a select group we went to the last climb, I don’t have any regrets, I just couldn’t follow the wheel of Sam Bennett. At first I was maybe a bit disappointed as I really felt strong the whole day. I sat in the wheel of Bennett, but I couldn’t go over him anymore. The second spot also just slipped away, as I had a chain issue. Now I’m third in GC, which is very nice as it’s my first race back after the spring. Tomorrow we will try another time for the victory with Milan (Menten).”
