The last stage, featuring three passages over the Pecs, was a tough conclusion to the Tour of Hungary. "And from the first passage onwards, the race was on," reflects Vanhoucke (26). "That climb was much more explosive than expected, and the race never really slowed down after we went over it the first time. By the third and final time, it was every man for himself. I tried to find my own rhythm and managed to just catch up with the group ahead of us sprinting for the win. Unfortunately just too late, resulting in an eighth place finish today."

Vanhoucke is satisfied with his Tour de Hongrie. With three top-ten finishes, he secures a nice sixth place in the overall standings. "I was completely empty every time I crossed the finish line. So, you can say it was tough enough. We gave our all as a team, it was a good week. I'm looking forward to a week of rest now. I'll take some time to recharge so I can start the preparations for the Vuelta with a fresh mind."
